Q: What is the difference between C1 and C3 media?

C1 is 10 × 7 mm with 1,000 m²/m³ of surface area; C3 is 25 × 12 mm with 600 m²/m³, so C1 fits more biofilm into the same reactor volume while C3 handles coarser, higher-solids water.

Q: How much media do I need?

Size the bed on the surface area your daily ammonia (TAN) load needs — send us your feed rate, species and water temperature and we will work the volume out with you.

Q: Is this the same as Kaldnes K1 and K3?

Yes — C1 is a direct equivalent to Kaldnes K1 and C3 to K3, so it drops straight into an existing moving bed reactor.

Q: Do you stock other media grades?

Fresh By Design deliberately stocks C1 and C3 only, but other grades are available on request.

Q: How is the media kept moving?

Coarse-bubble aeration from a grid in the base of the reactor fluidises the bed, which also oxygenates the water and strips carbon dioxide.

Q: Does it need backwashing or replacing?

No — the media is self-cleaning and non-blocking, and virgin polyethylene media has a very long service life with no consumables.
