Q: How is a pall ring different from a Raschig ring?

The cylinder is the same, but a pall ring’s wall carries two rows of punched holes with the material turned inward as fingers, opening the interior so gas and liquid reach surface a plain Raschig ring keeps sealed behind its wall.

Q: Which size should I use?

Smaller rings carry more surface area per cubic metre but pack more densely and cost more pressure drop; larger rings do the reverse. DG25 and DG50 cover the great majority of degassing and stripping duties, which is why we stock those two.

Q: How much media do I need?

Media is sold by the cubic metre, so start from the packed bed volume of your tower and use the bulk number and packing density columns to convert it to ring count and shipping weight.

Q: What is it made from?

The rings are moulded in polypropylene (PP) and supplied loose for random dumping into the packed section.

Q: Can I get sizes other than DG25 and DG50?

Yes — DG16, DG38, DG76 and DG100 are available on request; contact us with the volume you need.

Sizing: pall rings are sold by the cubic metre. Work out the packed bed volume of your tower, then use the packing density column in the table to convert it to shipping weight and the bulk number column to convert it to ring count. Worked example: a 2 m³ bed of DG50 is 2 x 6,500 = 13,000 rings at 2 x 42.5 = 85 kg.
