Yes — it reaches approximately the same removal capacity in marine water as in fresh water, but it gets there more slowly.

Yes — soak it in a 100 ppt (100 g per litre) NaCl brine; adding 50 g per litre of potassium hydroxide gives a more complete regeneration.
