Fresh By Design delivered advanced Life Support Systems (LSS) for the new Amphibian & Reptile Conservation Centre (ARC) at Taronga Zoo Sydney in Mosman. Designed specifically for the delicate needs of amphibians and reptiles, the systems play a crucial role in recreating natural habitats, ensuring the well-being of the animals, and supporting breeding programs. Fresh By Design equipped the ARC with 17 specialised LSS systems, including 17 LSS filter sumps with MAT filtration, PLC control panels and HMIs integrating UV sterilisers, temperature sensors, recirculation pumps, heat exchangers and protein skimmers, plus a central services skid with Grundfos booster pumps to ensure optimal flow to each of the 42 exhibits.
The systems had to suit the delicate needs of amphibians and reptiles, recreating natural habitats and supporting animal well-being and breeding programs across 42 separate exhibits.
17 specialised LSS systems comprising 17 LSS filter sumps with MAT filtration and PLC control panels and HMIs integrating UV sterilisers, temperature sensors, recirculation pumps, heat exchangers and protein skimmers; 8 Pentair SMART UV sterilisers (80 W to 240 W models); 9 Eheim Reeflex UVs (9 W to 25 W models); 30 kW of Sondex plate heat exchangers for precise temperature control; OCTO Regal 200 saltwater protein skimmers for marine animal care; 2 Waterco WD deep bed media filters with activated carbon and an RO system with 1 micron cartridges feeding a custom 4 m3 HDPE storage tank for central services; a central services skid with Grundfos booster pumps; and Davey Powermaster and Eheim CompactOn pumps for water recirculation between exhibits and LSS sumps.
