Pressure Relief Valve

A pressure relief valve is the cheapest insurance you can fit to a side channel blower. It vents excess air when discharge pressure climbs, so a blocked diffuser line or a closed downstream valve cannot drive the blower past its safe limit. Available in 40, 50, 65, 80 and 100 mm to match the discharge size of each blower in the Fresh By Design range.

Price range: $125.00 through $225.00 ex GST

Product Information

Key Features

  • Five connection sizes — 40 mm (1½”), 50 mm (2″), 65 mm (2½”), 80 mm (3″) and 100 mm (4″)
  • Vents excess air so a side channel blower is never driven past its safe discharge pressure
  • Recommended by Fresh By Design on every side channel blower installation as standard practice
  • Protects against over-pressure caused by blocked diffusers, fouled pipework or a closed downstream valve
  • A matching size is available for each blower in the Fresh By Design range
  • Fits the discharge manifold at the blower outlet, upstream of any isolating valve, so it can always relieve
  • Size on blower air flow and set pressure: match the valve to the blower’s discharge connection so it can pass the full free air delivery, and set it below the blower’s maximum rated discharge pressure

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is a pressure relief valve required on a side channel blower?
A side channel blower has no internal pressure limit, so if the discharge is throttled or blocked it will keep building pressure until the motor overloads or the impeller is damaged – the relief valve vents that excess air first.
How do I choose the right size?
Match the valve to the blower’s discharge connection size so it can pass the blower’s full free air delivery, then set it to lift below the blower’s maximum rated discharge pressure.
Where should the valve be installed?
On the discharge manifold at the blower outlet and upstream of any isolating valve, so it can still relieve if a downstream valve is closed.
What happens if I leave the valve off?
The blower runs unprotected, and a blocked diffuser line, fouled pipework or closed valve can drive it past its pressure limit and damage the machine.
Which size suits my blower?
Sizes are available to suit each blower in the Fresh By Design range – tell us your blower model and we will confirm the matching valve.
Does the relief valve replace a pressure gauge?
No – the valve protects the blower, while a gauge lets you see the working pressure and confirm the blower is running inside its duty range.
Can you supply sizes larger than 100 mm?
Yes – contact Fresh By Design with the blower model and duty and we will quote a relief valve to suit.
