How much do I need?
Use 100 grams of powder per 1,000 litres of culture. One kilogram makes 10,000 litres of medium at F/2 strength, so divide your culture volume in litres by 10,000 to get the kilograms per batch, then choose the 1 kg unit or the 20 kg case.
Which algae does Cell-Hi F2P suit?
It is based on the Guillard F/2 medium, which was designed for coastal marine algae, and is typically used to grow Chaetoceros calcitrans, Chaetoceros muelleri and Thalassiosira pseudonana.
Should I choose F2P or Cell-Hi Walnes?
F2P follows the Guillard F/2 recipe and is the usual choice for the diatoms above. Cell-Hi Walnes is the Walnes formulation and is particularly suitable for flagellate algae such as Isochrysis and Tetraselmis.
Do I need to add silicate?
Yes for diatoms. Silicates are not present in this medium, so add 30 grams of sodium metasilicate for each 1,000 litres of culture water after adding the Cell-Hi.
Can I dose harder in a photobioreactor?
Yes. Advanced and tubular reactors giving much higher algal concentrations can be run at 2 to 5 times the quantity without harm.
How should it be stored and how long does it keep?
Store it in a refrigerator or a cool, dark place. The soluble powder keeps for up to 12 months.
